Remote learning continues

Several boards had a deadline of mid-January for parents to decide if their children would attend in-school or remote learning.

For schools in the Rainbow District School Board, their online numbers have almost doubled since September says education director Bruce Bourget.

He adds 670 elementary students are currently learning remotely, compared to 372 in September.

For secondary school, 325 students are learning online compared to 157 in September.

Algoma District School Board education superintendent Marcy Bell says about six percent of elementary students are online, a slight increase from September. About four percent of the board’s secondary

students are learning remotely, compared to two percent last fall.

And Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario said they currently have 72 students learning remotely, compared to 45 in September.

Numbers from the French and English Catholic boards are expected later this week.

All school boards are awaiting direction from the Ontario Ministry of Education on whether online or remote learning will be an option for September.
