HSCDSB allocates funds for school upgrades

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is investing in upgrades in several schools.

Education director Rose Burton Spohn says the board is allocating just over $5 million to upgrades at six elementary schools and another $700 thousand in general maintenance.

She says the largest project will be $1.3 million going to upgrades to the ventilation system and for energy efficient LED lighting at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Blind River.

She says in Elliot Lake, $1.2 million will be used at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School to convert JK and SK rooms, an exterior fenced play area, new lighting and storage shed.

Burton Spohn says three other schools in Wawa, White River and Chapleau will also get new ventilation systems installed.

The work is to begin this spring.
