Maplegate going to Ontario Land Tribunal

Maplegate of Elliot Lake is appealing to the Ontario Land Tribunal to allow for zoning changes to its women’s shelter and men’s facility.

In December, city council voted against allowing for rezoning amendments following an outcry from people living in the vicinity of the two homes, so last month Maplegate appealed the denial, but the city refused once again.

The city states both shelters had been operating without proper zoning for months which would allow for a multi-residential designation.

With that, Maplegate is now appealing to the Ontario Land Tribunal.

The tribunal will only deal with the zoning issues and if Maplegate wins, the city will be required to monitor the facilities for building, bylaw and fire code compliance.
