Elliot Lake, Blind River just two of over 100 municipalities receiving gas tax funds

Ontario communities that provide public transit are receiving their portion of this year’s allocation of $375.6-million dollars in gas dollars.

Blind River will receive just over $16-thousand dollars and Elliot Lake, just under $129 thousand dollars.

Espanola also receives a small portion since it provides the handi-bus services.

According to the release, the funding is part of the province’s Gas Tax program to 107 municipalities that deliver public transit including Blind River and Elliot Lake.

Funding for the program is determined by the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous year, receiving two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenue.

The money can be used to improve accessibility, extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes or for upgrades.
