Mantha supports push to help increase nurses

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha says it is imperative that the Ford government develops and implements plans to resolve the province-wide nursing crisis.

He says just days ago, NDP leader Andrea Horwath stated the healthcare system finds itself in desperate need of more than 22,000 nurses.

Mantha says the NDP is calling on Doug Ford to clear a pathway to address the nursing shortage by removing the roadblock that stands in the way of retired nurses who are prepared to help vaccinate Ontarians against Omicron.

Mantha adds the NDP has also been trying to convince the government to reintroduce a previously enacted emergency order, which would reduce the time for processing the applications for those retired nurses.

He says they will continue pushing for the change this week.
