Trucking convoy Ottawa-bound – expected in local area next Friday

B.C. truckers will take part in a Canada-wide convoy protesting the new federal vaccine mandate.

The convoy is being organized by a southern B.C. big rigger that starts on Sunday will travel east picking up truckers along the way.

Their destination is Ottawa where they will join other drivers from Ontario, Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada, and Quebec.

In the local area, motorists can expect the convoy to come through Highway 17 from Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury in the morning on Friday, January 28th, which could mean travel slowdowns through the North Shore corridor.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance says the vaccine mandate will drive about 12,000 drivers off the road, force prices higher, and throw an already damaged supply chain into further chaos. In the mandate, truckers must prove they are fully vaccinated to cross the Canadian border or face a 14-day quarantine and unvaccinated American truckers will be turned away.
