The POLICE REPORT – motel fire nets drugs and uttering threats charges laid

Fire at motel results in drug charges

Greater Sudbury Police has arrested a local man following a motel fire.

Constable Kaitlyn Dunn says a week ago Monday, police got a call about a fire inside one of the units at the Richard Lake Motel.

She says evidence was found that the occupant was allegedly using a butane stove in the room when an explosion took place. The occupant was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. She says officers found additional evidence the occupant was allegedly attempting to make cannabis oil at the time of the explosion resulting in around $3,500 in damages.

Dunn says a search warrant resulted n the recovery of drugs valued at just over $4,100.

She adds the 51-year-old man ws arrested and charged with arson, altering chemicals and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He is to appear in Sudbury court March 23rd.

 

Elliot Lake man arrested for making threats

East Algoma OPP has arrested an Elliot Lake man following an investigation into a threatening incident.

OPP Constable Phil Young says last Friday morning, complainants reported being allegedly threatened by a person on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Young says a 33-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged with two counts of uttering death threats, and one count each of uttering threats to property and an animal.

He adds the accused was also charged with three counts of breach and appeared in Blind River court last Friday.
