Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, staff and friends are remembering her parliamentary assistant who passed away suddenly last week.

Hughes says Jamie Burgess was the first employee she hired when first elected in 2008 and worked as her legislative assistant until his sudden passing on January 10th.

Hughes adds he was dedicated to his family and to the New Democratic Party, truly enjoyed working in Parliament being one of the longest serving NDP staffers on the Hill, having worked for former MP Bill Blaikie before her.

As per his wishes, there is no funeral, but donations can be made in his name to a conservation foundation he supported.

For those who wish, a donation can be made in Jamie name by following the link provided: https://www.cataraquiconservationfoundation.com/get-involved

He was 56.
