SPORTS – Little NHL tournament cancelled for the third time

The Little Native Hockey League Annual Tournament, one of the largest in Canada, has been cancelled for the third time.

Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod says the decision to cancel was out of concern for the health and safety of First Nation communities.

The Little Native Hockey League was founded in 1971 with the first tournament held in Little Current and featuring 17 teams and 200 players.

The last tournament in 2018 was held during the March break in Mississauga, Ontario, with 209 teams and nearly 3,000 players from across the province taking part.

McLeod says the league will assess the situation once again in the fall.
