Health Sciences North still offering COVID-19 testing

Health Sciences North is still offering COVID-19 testing to the wider public.

Communication manager Jason Turnbull says activity levels at the hospital’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre on Regent Street have been steady in the past month, with an average last week of 366 tests daily despite statutory holidays and a high of 528 tests on December 30th.

He says the Centre was opened every day during the holidays to allow for shorter turnaround times for PCR test results for Sudburians.

Turnbull says unlike some other Canadian hospitals, the facility is not yet facing a shortage of PCR tests. He adds they are maintaining a turnaround of 48 hours for PCR testing.

Turnbull says they will maintain the schedule if the supplies remain steady and so no prioritization triage is in place as yet but could be implemented at any time.

He adds the public should also keep in mind that provincial regulations prioritizing the highly vulnerable are in place.
