A unique approach to reducing plastic

An Espanola store is moving to a larger location to make room for reducing plastics through a unique initiative.

Tricia Cox of Simplicity Natural Foods says the health food store is moving out of the Espanola mall to Espanola’s downtown core to allow for the expansion of a refillery.

She says a refillery is a retail store designed to help reduce single use plastic consumption in everyday life by offering the option to reuse and refill your own containers again and again with household items such as foods and cleaning supplies and personal care items such as shampoo and conditioner.

Cox says people who purchase products from the store will be able to reduce their waste by bringing back their containers to refill with products used on a regular basis.

She adds the grand opening at 123 Tudhope street takes place this Friday December 10th at 10 am.
