New apartment complex planned for Little Current

Manitoulin Sudbury District Services Board is awarding the tender of a new apartment building to a Sudbury-based company.

Board CAO Fern Dominelli said he was pleased the project was finally moving forward with the board passing a motion at its November 25 board meeting. Sudbury’s Capital Construction was awarded the tender to build the 12-unit apartment complex.

He adds the new housing complex will be constructed on land adjacent to Low Island, which was donated by Lily Fielding to the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.

The project is estimated to cost just over $5-million dollars.

Dominelli is optimistic that construction can begin over the winter months adding time is crucial with some 40 seniors waiting for housing in the local area.
