Auction underway for Christmas baskets

The Counselling Centre of East Algoma has kicked off its silent art auction to raise funds for Christmas baskets.

Centre Public Educator, Paula Kendall says the theme this year is ‘Art for the Holidays’ with the centre hoping to raise $10,000 with families in both Elliot Lake and Serpent River receiving food baskets through the Food Bank, as well as for purchasing essentials and/or gifts for the holidays.

She says the kickoff for the event was held on Friday at the Collins Hall in Elliot Lake featuring entertainment by Serpent River First Nation and local pianist and vocalist Ponto Paparo and Santa Claus of course.

Kendall says the art has been donated by local artisans with the auction opening on Saturday for three weeks of what she hopes will be enthusiastic bidding with tallies updated regularly.
