East Algoma OPP REPORT – suspicious person, incest charges and a hammer incident

OPP request assistance identifying suspicious person in Elliot Lake

East Algoma OPP is looking for assistance from the public about a suspicious person in Elliot Lake.

OPP Constable Phil Young says police were called to a nearby school at around 9 am last Wednesday by staff reporting a student was approached by someone while walking to school.

Young says the man is described as between 40 to 50 years old, tall, slim build wearing a gray and green coat, and carrying a plastic grocery bag.

Young adds police canvassed the area and officers continue to patrol the area.

He emphasizes there is no threat to public safety, but anyone with any information is asked to call police or Crimestoppers.

OPP charge Elliot Lake resident with numerous sex-related offences

East Algoma OPP has charged an Elliot Lake man with several sex-related offences.

OPP Constable Phil Young says on November 10th police conducted a historical sexual assault-related investigation in Elliot Lake.

He says the investigation involved numerous victims of various ages over an extensive period.

He says on November 13th police executed an arrest warrant at a residence on Beckett Boulevard where a 44-year-old was arrested and charged with a slew of sexual assault charges including five counts of invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age and incest.

The investigation is ongoing.

The 44-year-old was charged with:

Sexual Assault (two counts), contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code (CC)

Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm, contrary to section 272(1)(c) of the CC

Sexual Assault with Threat of Harm to Third Person (two counts), contrary to section 272(1)(b) of the CC

Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Person Under 18 years of age, contrary to section 171.1(1)(a) of the CC

Incest (two counts), contrary to section 155 of the CC

Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16 years of age (five counts), contrary to section 152 of the CC

Sexual Interference (four counts), contrary to section 151 of the CC

Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC

Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC

OPP charge complainant with assault with a hammer

East Algoma OPP has charged an Elliot Lake man with assault with a weapon.

OPP Constable Phil Young says police were called to a residence last Friday where a complainant reported he hit another man over the head with a hammer after he tried to break in.

However, Young says police learned both individuals knew each other, and the complainant had invited the man over.

Young says argument ensued and the visitor was struck with the hammer.

A 44-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

He is to appear in Elliot Lake court in January.
