Bishops offer financial supports for reconciliation projects

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops says it will offer 30-million dollars to sponsor Indigenous reconciliation projects for survivors of the residential school system and their families.

The bishops say the money, to be allocated over five years, will be aimed at local projects that make a difference to those experiencing trauma caused by the system.

The allocations will be made in consultation with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit groups across the country.

The funding comes after Friday’s announcement from the Conference that the Catholic Church was apologizing, unreservedly, for its role in running residential schools across Canada.
