Corporation set to meet with Rainbow Board to save school

A date has been set for an Espanola corporation to meet with the Rainbow District School Board to seek a stop to demolition order for the vacant former AB Ellis PS building.
Rainbow Community Non-Profit Housing spokesperson Fred Yackman says the board has informed them they can make a presentation next week, September 28th.
He says they have been busy over the summer applying for a planning grant to move to the next phase of retrofitting the vacant building to senior and low-income housing units.
Yackman says they have received support for the initiative from both MPP Mike Mantha and newly re-elected MP Carol Hughes.
The board is waiting the demolition order from the Ministry to take down the building and turn the property into a parking lot.
The meeting will be livestreamed at 5 pm at rainbowschools.ca.
