It’s not every day that Sudbury gets to be the global launch pad for new technologies and procedures with the potential to save thousands of lives.
According to the release, this is precisely what happened when the cardiac team at Health Sciences became the first surgical team in the world to implant all three Resilia (REE-sill-ee-ah) tissue heart valves.
These tissue heart valves, developed and manufactured by Edwards Lifesciences, feature a special type of tissue which may help improve valve durability, reducing the need for repeat valve surgeries.
This feat was accomplished this summer when they completed the first implant of the MITRIS RESILIA mitral valve in North America.
