Five municipalities reviewing shared efficiencies

Five municipalities are moving forward on reviewing efficiencies under the umbrella of a provincial funding program.

Elliot Lake council will look at implementing a bylaw tonight to facilitate funding for a regional review, which includes four neighbouring municipalities.

CAO Daniel Gagnon says the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing launched a funding program called the Municipal Modernization Review Stream this Spring designed to help municipalities improve or streamline service delivery by working together.

After consultation with neighbouring communities, Elliot Lake took the lead and applied on behalf of the city and local municipalities.
The application was successful, and the council will have to pass the bylaw to move the process to the next step.

Gagnon says if passed, the five will conduct the review looking at bylaws and bylaw enforcement, landfills, and building services.

The Transfer Payment Agreement by all five must be submitted by September 20th and the final report

completed by January 31st, 2022.

After consultation with neighbouring communities, Elliot Lake took the lead and submitted an application on behalf of the city, the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers, the Municipality of Huron Shores, the Town of Blind River, and the Town of Spanish.

The meeting will be live-streamed at www.elliotlake.ca
