Last night’s Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing debate in Espanola drew a smaller, but more boisterous crowd than usual with some 20 anti-vaccination policy protesters holding signs outside.
They state they were bringing awareness of what they call the injustice of our rights and are against vaccine passports.
The pandemic and, in turn, other related issues from the elderly, mental health, the opioid crisis and the economic impacts were a big part of the panel discussion.
A wide range of other issues including gun ownership, the lumber industry and First Nation issues, especially residential schools, were also on the docket.
Six candidates are vying for the federal seat in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing riding.
However, Green Party candidate Steven Zimmerman and New Democrat Carol Hughes were not in attendance.
The remaining candidates – Christian Heritage Party candidate Clarence Baarda, Harry Jaaskelainen (YASS-ka-line-in) of the People’s Party of Canada., Conservative John Sagman, and Liberal Duke Peltier all took turns addressing the various issues.
The Moose hosted the North Channel All-Candidates Debate last night with some 70 people in attendance.
