Medical and home community mourns loss of Rose Pitawanakwat

Whitefish River First Nation and the Health Sciences North community is mourning the loss of one of their own.
According to the release, the hospital says Rose Pitawanakwat held many important roles since starting her work as the Aboriginal Coordinator with the North-East Cancer Centre in 2017.
She moved up in the ranks to become the Indigenous Coordinator and most recently Indigenous Patient Navigator.
She is noted for helping shape projects such as the Indigenous Self-Identification Project and the Indigenous cancer video series, both of which are nearing completion.
She is featured in both informing and reaching Indigenous communities about cancer screening and care.
Flags were lowered yesterday in her honour.
