Blind River playground now part of budget process

Blind River’s Shirvon Park could be getting a $55,000 retrofit now that town council has decided not to turn it into green space.
Council had planned to strip the long-time playground and leave it as green space, but after a 140-signature petition was submitted by local resident Ben Wiesner lobbying for it to remain, council rescinded the motion and is looking at upgrading the area instead.
As part of a review of the town’s six playgrounds, staff reported all need upgrades.
The upgrades could include equipment and new fencing under government regulations since it is located on a water byway.
Those improvements have now been sent to the budget committee for review as part of the 2022 accounting process.
