Sudbury biotech start-up lands $500,000 in provincial funds

A Sudbury-based biotech company is getting a financial shot in the arm to developing new medical equipment.
Company vice-president of business development, Victoria Coleman says Verv Technologies has received half-a-million-dollars in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to complete the work on their new at-home blood analyzer.
She adds the goal is to enable all people the ability to test for a variety of things such as glucose or cholesterol levels.
She adds to conduct a blood test, the user places a drop of blood onto a disposable test strip, which is then inserted into the Vi, analyzes the request for specific information and uploads it to a smartphone about 15 minutes later.
Coleman adds it expects the product to be available commercially in 2022.
