Elliot Lake Mayor unveils Prospector’s Monuments and inducts six miner’s names on the wall

Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella and members of council, as well as the original Miner’s Monument committee members were all on hand for the unveiling of the third bronze installed at the Miner’s Monument.
The official unveiling of the Prospector’s monument took place with the only surviving prospector of the Elliot Lake discovery, Jim Ryan, taking part.
Janice Martell, the lead in the McIntyre Project was also in attendance to see her father’s name, James Hobbs, unveiled along with five other miners acknowledged for their contribution to the industry.
Martell says around 100 people attended followed by a Collins Hall luncheon, which included information tables about the McIntyre Powder Project, memorial table, and the work of the Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers.
She says as keynote speaker she was also proud to share with the audience to stories of the six contributed by their family.
