Whitefish Falls artist up for prestigious art prize

An Indigenous artist who now lives in Ingersoll, but hails from Whitefish Falls is up for a prestigious art prize.

The Salt Spring National Art Prize has announced its finalists for the fall exhibition running from Friday, September 24th to Monday, October 25th including the area’s own, Michael NF Cywink.

Cywink work with Indigenous youth throughout the school board in London with a focus on healthy relationships, leadership opportunities, and strong cultural components intertwined throughout.

He says he paints to teach others about his culture and to add colour to a world that can be somewhat grey at times.

Cywink adds he is proud of the recognition with his other finalists work to be revealed publicly on the 24th at the SSNAP Opening Gala in-person and virtual event.

Viewers of the exhibition will also cast their votes for The People’s Choice Awards.
