Wanted male attempts to flee police, arrested

The Sagamok First Nation Detachment of the Anishinabek Police Service has arrested a local man and charged him with several drug related charges.

Sargeant Chantal Laroque says their office was notified of a possible wanted male was hanging outside of a residence in Sagamok First Nation.

She says he attempted to flee but was arrested on several outstanding warrants held by the Manitoulin OPP

Laroque says he was found with a backpack which was filled with suspected rugs including cocaine, fentanyl, meth, as well a drug paraphernalia, $4,000 in cash and an identity document that did not belong to him.

She adds the 37-year-old has been charged with one charge of simple possession, three charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of an identity document.

He was held for a bail hearing.
