Espanola council has given its approval to the tender for the Trunk Water-main Replacement project.
It is the main water line that runs from the water treatment plant to the town’s water tank on Mead Blvd.
Public Works manager Joel Yusko says they received three bids recommending council that the tender be awarded to Belanger Construction in the sum of just over $4.3-million dollars.
He also explained to council that due to supply chain issues and the availability of products, the municipality pre-purchased the pipe materials and valves at a cost of just over $572,000.
He adds the tender and materials fall within the department’s budget of $5,744,000 based on the engineers estimate.
Council unanimously supported the motion with funds coming from reserves.
The project will begin immediately with a completion in the fall of 2022.
