Firefighters say good-bye to one of their own

A large contingent of firefighters from across Manitoulin Island and further afield converged in Providence Bay on Saturday to say good-bye to one of their own.

As part of a Memorial Parade, firefighters and fire trucks led the procession for John Reid, the former Fire Chief of Central Manitoulin who passed away on Canada Day.

Reid’s memorial also included having the new fire truck bear his likeness in his honour.

Reid served over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter and was appointed fire chief since 2005.

He was 65.
