Hundreds welcome Espanola paramedic home

An Espanola man was pleasantly “overwhelmed” with the warm welcome he received on his arrival home.

Chris Gillis was greeted with fire departments from across the North Channel Corridor, as well as paramedic services, health workers and others cheering on his return to Espanola last Friday evening.

Gillis suffered a severe partial spinal injury last September when he collided with a deer on a motorcycle ride to Manitoulin Island.

He had spent the last several months in rehabilitation but is well enough to return home to continue his treatment.

A long-time paramedic and well-known volunteer, Gillis says the welcome home was more than he could have wished for and he extends a sincere thank you to everyone for their expressions of support.
