Elliot Lake council approves buying new junior hockey team

Elliot Lake will have a junior hockey team in the fall. City council approved creating a non profit club in a 5-1 vote on Monday.  The vote was based on a proposal where the city spends $100,000 to buy a team and pay upfront operating costs.  The proposal claims the money can be paid back to the city over seven to eight years through sponsorships and partnerships.  Volunteers will run the team and now the next step is to recruit coaching staff and then the quest begins to look for players.
