A bush fire started small but spread rapidly midway between Massey and Webbwood beside Highway 17 late yesterday afternoon.
Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Chief Paul Panesar happened to be passing by and noticed people stomping out small fires.
He called out dispatch at 3:30 pm and within minutes all the township’s four fire halls were on the scene to control the blaze.
Putting out the fire took about three hours.
The blaze burnt about half a hectare and with Huron Central Railway’s crew assistance a smouldering pile of railway ties was also put out.
He says the cause is unknown
