Appointment of new provincial medical officer of health
The Ontario government is tabling a motion in the Legislature to appoint Dr. Kieran Moore as the province’s next Chief Medical Officer of Health to succeed Dr. David Williams.
The motion will be tabled today following the announcement of Dr. Williams’ retirement on June 25th.
Should the motion pass, Dr. Moore would assume office June 26th.
Minister of Health Christine Elliot says Dr. Moore has agreed to take on this important role at a critical juncture in the fight against COVID-19.
She also thanked Dr. Williams for his dedication to safeguarding the health and safety of Ontarians during his many years of service.
A look at the local numbers
Public Health Sudbury and Districts has reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the last three days, nine in the Greater Sudbury area, one in the Sudbury District.
Considering resolved cases, there are 30 active cases in the health agency’s jurisdiction.
Health Sciences North is reporting there are 15 admitted patients to the facility, nine who have tested positive and six waiting for test results.
Of the 15, six individuals are in intensive care.
Algoma Public Health is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend in the district.
Considering resolved cases, there are 18 active cases in the district, including three individuals in hospital.
Two of the three in hospital are from outside of the Algoma District but are receiving treatment locally.
Back to work or not …
A survey shows most of us would be reluctant to head back to the office, full-time, once the COVID-19 pandemic eases.
The survey, for the Association for Canadian Studies, shows 82 per cent of people who worked from home found the experience at least somewhat positive.
Almost 60 per cent say they’d like to return part-time or occasionally and only 20 per cent want to go back to the office every working day.
One third of those say they’d look for another job where they could work from home, if their bosses insist they come back to the office.
The main reasons for preferring to work from home; convenience, cost savings, and increased productivity.
Anti-mask rally held in the Sault and Sudbury this weekend
A vocal anti-masker brought his message to Sault Ste. Mare and Sudbury.
Independent MPP Randy Hillier attended impromptu hastily organized anti-mask rallies in Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury this weekend.
Hillier was welcomed with open arms and he joined several speakers who spoke of the freedom of choice and the right to refuse vaccinations and other government COVID-19 protocols.
Hillier who has been fined several times says he is looking forward to his day in court to ‘argue the constitutional breaches and seeing the laws struck down.
