New mentor named to Elliot Lake Red Wings
The Elliot Lake Red Wings of the NOJHL have announced that former NHL’er Raffi Torres has been named the club’s NHL mentor.
Announced on their webpage, the organization says the Raffi will be helping by talking to our players both on and off the ice.
Torres was drafted by the New York Islanders 5th overall in the 2000 NHL entry draft and played with several teams, both Canadian and American.
He will provide his mentoring at the upcoming Red Wings camp and golf tournament this summer.
The Red Wings are holding their training camp and tryouts at the Centennial Arena June 10th through 13th.
The National Hockey League playoffs update
Jack Campbell made 27 saves as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 last night to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series. Elsewhere Kyle Connor scored in triple overtime and the Winnipeg Jets edged the Oilers 4-3, eliminating Edmonton in 4 straight games. The Minnesota Wild defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2, Vegas leads that series 3 games to 2, Florida beat Tampa 4-1, the Lightning have a 3 games to 2 lead in that series and the Islanders scored in double OT to edge Pittsburgh 3-2 and take a 3-2 series lead.
No go for Canada at world hockey tourney
Canada dropped a 3-1 decision to Germany yesterday to remain winless at the men’s world hockey championship. Nick Paul scored the lone goal for Canada, which has opened the preliminary round with three straight losses
Toronto Blue Jays lose out
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 14-8 in 11 innings yesterday. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit two of Toronto’s five home runs as the Jays have now lost 6 games in a row.
