Communities and politicians mark a special day

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is marked around the world on May 17th. The day was created in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.

Yesterday, Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella along with Elliot Lake Pride Committee president Chantal MacEachern raised the flag at City Hall to recognize the rights of all individuals no matter what their sexual preference.

The day of celebration officially began in 2005 and is now celebrated in over 130 countries.

The day was also acknowledged at both provincial and national levels.
