Landowners with property abutting drainage systems have won a victory in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
Representatives of those landowners have met with council several times over the last couple of months wanting some recompense, and even going so far as to state they would go to court to fight the fee structure.
The township had been ordered to update its drainage system under the Drainage Act, and with that, several property owners were hit with tax hikes.
In the end, council acknowledged last week that the matter had come to a head and agreed to amend the bylaw that all assessed costs be reduced by 50 per cent and the remainder of the funds will come from the general purse.
The motion passed unanimously.
