Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting ten new cases of COVID-19, all in the City of Greater Sudbury area.
Considering resolved cases, there are 158 active cases within the agency’s jurisdiction
Health Sciences North’s numbers of admitted patients have climbed once again with 32 admitted patients.
Of the 23 positive cases, four patients are in intensive care, and there are nine people still waiting for test results.
Algoma Public Health is reporting five new cases of COVID-19, all from Sault Ste. Marie and area.
Considering resolved cases, there are 45 active cases with two individuals in the hospital.
Ford self-isolating following close contact
Premier Doug Ford is in isolation this morning, after coming into close contact with a staff member who’s come down with COVID-19.
A statement from his office says Ford has tested negative but will follow public health advice and self-isolate.
Ford received his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on April 9th, but it usually takes about two weeks for the vaccine’s protection to become fully effective.
Province considering paid leave
After months of saying it wasn’t necessary, the provincial government is considering some sort of paid sick leave for those affected by COVID-19.
Solicitor-General Sylvia Jones says Monday’s federal budget didn’t address what she called “gaps” in the system, so the province is considering its own plan.
Previously, the government had said those who had to take time off because of COVID-19 would be covered by the federal Canada Sickness Recovery Benefit.
The move also comes after the government’s Science Advisory Table said paid sick leave was one important way of checking the spread of the virus across the province allowing those exposed to the virus to stay home.
Toronto and Peel Region are now ordering workplaces with five or more COVID-19 cases within two weeks to shut down operations.
