Men and women who died because of occupational injury or illness while working at the mines in Elliot Lake are remembered on the Miners’ Memorial Wall.
Recreation and Culture manager Darla Hennessey told council there are five more names to be added to the wall.
She says at a meeting of the Miners’ Memorial Name Selection Committee held March 26th, members recommended the five: James Hobbs, Aimo Salo, Oswald Hajek, Lenard Alexander McKay and Wayne Drysdale.
Council gave its unanimous support to the motion at its meeting last night.
The unveiling is planned during the Day of Mourning Ceremony on April 28th with COVID-19 protocols in place.
