Tribute Centre announced for Humboldt bus tragedy

The City of Humboldt, Saskatchewan has announced on the third anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that a tribute centre will be built in honour of the Humboldt Broncos 29 victims.

Sixteen people were killed and 13 others injured after a semi ran a stop sign at an intersection in eastern Saskatchewan on April 6th, 2018.

The City of Humboldt has revealed conceptual drawings for a $25-million tribute centre, which will include a gallery, ice surface and physiotherapy area.

A video featuring Connor McDavid, Kyle Lowry, Hailey Wickenheiser and other sports stars lending their name to the fundraising campaign was also presented.

Organizers say $25 million is an initial estimate of costs, and that could change as the project advances. No timeline for the completion of the project was provided.

Still with the story, today is the Third Annual Green Shirt Day, which honours player Logan Boulet who succumbed to his injuries and whose organs were donated by his family to save six lives.

The public is asked to wear a green shirt or put out hockey sticks to mark the day, and to consider signing up to become organ donors.
