Elliot Lake staff is hoping a contest to have a ratepayer’s water bill paid will attract taxpayers to e-billing.
Treasurer Amy Sonnenburg told the council Monday night the city can save up to $20,000 a year by adopting e-billing for its tax and water/wastewater accounts, rather than using Canada Post.
Sonnenberg pitched the plan, saying that based on getting around 2,000 participants signed up, the city would save $10,000 this year.
She says to sign up, residents are asked to visit the City of Elliot Lake website, select “I want to”, then “E-billing”, and follow the directions.
