Time to get off the ice

OPP is asking people to stay off the ice.

East Algoma OPP Constable Bev Gauthier says on Monday afternoon, police, paramedics and fire all responded to a person that went through the ice on the Blind River.

The 47-year-old operator of the bike crawled out of the water onto the ice and made it to shore near West Street Apartments.
Paramedics transported the person to local hospital and the individual was later released.

The Ministry of Environment was notified and some two hours later the dirt bike was retrieved with no gas spillage.

Gauthier is warning snowmobilers, ATV and dirt bike riders that the mild conditions are dangerous and people should stay off the ice.

She says it doesn’t matter where you are, with the Spring melt coming early, people should remove their huts and stay off the ice.
