Blind River plans memorial gazebo

The plan to build a memorial gazebo on Sellers Beach was fully endorsed by council at this week’s virtual meeting.

The Blind River Rotary Club raised almost $32,000 to build the accessible gazebo to honour Bea Jensen, a long-time club member and active community volunteer, who died last year.

A survey on where it should be located and its design garnered some 300 responses from the community.

The 12-foot by 18-foot structure will accommodate two picnic tables and be roofed to allow for multi-seasonable use.

Jensen was not only well known for her community work but taught for many years at St. Joseph School in Blind River and was involved in multiple charities before her passing.

Construction is to begin in late Spring.
