Yard waste depot moved to a new location in Espanola

Spring is here and the Espanola council has approved the relocation of the Yard Waste Depot from near the ski hill to a new location.

Public Works Assistant Manager Dave Parker says the Yard Waste Depot began operation in 2016 as a pilot project at the snow dump across from the ski hill and allowed for the disposal of compost materials such as leaves, grass clippings, wood chips as well as brush and small pieces of wood at no charge to the public.

Prior to closing it every year, the department burns the brush, but this has resulted in complaints by area homeowners and false fire reports, so Fire Chief Mike Pichor recommended it be moved.

Council approved the relocation to the Panache Lake Road location including signage and a security camera at a cost of $4,000.
