Elliot Lake council introduces new Clean Yards draft bylaw

Elliot Lake council discussed a new by-law dealing with clean yards.

City Clerk Natalie Bray says the by-law deals with the maintenance and care of yards in respect to keeping yards clean and free from debris, garbage, long grass, abandoned appliances, and more as detailed in the Property Maintenance Section.

She says implementing the bylaw will relieve the need to type an order for every instance and eliminates the minimum three-week wait that an order requires prior to action under the current property standards bylaw.

With the council’s approval, the bylaw allows for charges to be brought against the owners or the occupants after seven days of non-compliance and will provide By-Law Officers with the ability to deal with yard maintenance issues.
