Elliot Lake council approves application to expand wireless network

Elliot Lake’s Director of IT Robyn Scott’s recommendation of an all-wireless plan for expansion of the city-owned wireless network was unanimously supported by city council.

Daniel Kaltainen with the Sudbury-based Lloyd Research Group Incorporated presented the council with a wireless option requiring a commitment of $165,213 towards a project totalling just over $655,000.

The staff recommendation also included an application be made to the federal Universal Broadband Fund.

Council also agreed that the funding will be taken from the Elliot Lake Wireless Reserve and Working Funds Reserve if they receive approval from the federal level.

Council agreed to the expenditure so the application for the Universal Broadband Fund will now be submitted in time to meet the March 15th deadline.
