Older Dionne Quint sibling passes

One of the Dionne Quintuplets siblings with strong ties to Espanola has died.

Therese “Dionne” Callahan was a former Espanola teacher and wife to Espanola K-Vees Captain Tom Callahan.

Her younger siblings were the Dionne Quintuplets of Callander, Ontario who were world-famous in the 1930s and 40s as the world’s first set of identical quints to survive their infancy.

Therese did not see much of her famous siblings growing up since the government took custody of the girls and raised them separately from their birth family.

Therese eventually became a school principal and was also a gifted musician.

Her passion for music consisted of playing piano as well as directing various choirs throughout the North Bay area following her retirement from teaching.

Due to COVID-19, a private family interment service took place in North Bay.

She passed away on February 24th at the age of 91.

Donations to the Alzheimer Society are appreciated.
