Work continues on retrofit plans for AB Ellis Public School building

An assessment of the AB Ellis Public School building in Espanola has been completed as part of an ongoing effort to showcase the feasibility of having it retrofitted as apartments.

Fred Yackman, the chair of Rainbow Community Non-Profit Housing says the architects and engineers have completed their assessment of the condition of the building and preliminary design work.

He says the group is finalizing the analysis of the housing demand survey to determine interest in one- and- two-bedroom apartments located at 128 Park Street.

Arc Management will assess all that information with an emphasis on financial analysis to complete the feasibility study and present it to the corporation members by the end of March.

AB Ellis Public has been temporarily housing Sacred Heart School elementary students who are expected to move into the new school following the April school break.

AB Ellis students are now housed as a joint school in the Espanola High School building.

The study will be analyzed and presented to the Rainbow District School Board and the municipality.
