Cooper Smyl notched the lone marker in the shootout to help propel the Soo Thunderbirds to a 6-5 victory over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at John Rhodes Community Centre.
And yesterday afternoon, Smyl scored three times to collect his first hat trick in a 7-2 decision over the Beavers at the Blind River Community Centre.
The league also announced that both weekend games between the Espanola Express and French River Rapids were postponed after someone from one of the teams had been in close contact with a person who had a positive COVID-19 result.
The teams will now enter the regulated quarantine period with updated schedules announced soon.
