In Sudbury/Manitoulin …

This week, the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to more groups of eligible recipients in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts medical officer of health, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe says staff has been working directly with partner agencies to identify individuals to ensure they book their appointments to get vaccinated.

As more vaccine becomes available, additional groups of individuals will be offered the vaccine.

Currently, only those eligible based on provincial direction can get vaccinated.

This week, Public Health plans are being put into action to offer the vaccine at mobile and mass immunization clinics.

She adds eligible recipients include staff and essential caregivers of long-term care homes, residents of retirement homes, and highest priority health care workers, in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidance.

The agency will open its first mass vaccination clinic at the Carmichael Arena today.

Public Health continues to welcome general questions about the vaccine and remains committed to keeping the community informed about our immunization progress.

In Elliot Lake …

Algoma Public Health has advised the Elliot Lake Family Health Team to plan for mass COVID-19 vaccinations in mid-March.

Dr. Cathy Groh says under the direction of the health agency, the first group to get vaccinated will be those 80 and older.

The vaccines will be given at Collins Hall.

As soon as Public Health provides a date for the delivery of vaccine, people will be contacted with appointments.

People at Huron Lodge and Hillside Park will be vaccinated at their retirement homes.

Dr. Groh says arrangements will be made for people who live in the community but are unable to get to the Collins Hall.

People, especially those 80 years old and over, are asked to contact the clinic to have their names added to the list.

For an appointment in Elliot Lake, call 705-461-8882.
