A Sudbury resident is facing a $3,000 fine for ignoring quarantine rules after travelling to the United States.
Greater Sudbury Police Constable Kaitlyn Dunn says police were notified on Saturday by a quarantine officer with the Public Health Agency of Canada that a Sudbury resident had breached the Quarantine Act by returning from the United States with outdated tests results and then ignoring rules about self-isolating.
Police said the person ignored the order to report to a quarantine facility for testing, instead returning home to Sudbury.
As a result, the service fined the individual $3,000 for contravening the act.
Under the current law, travelers five-years-old and up entering Canada’s land ports of entry, unless exempted, are required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 results taken in the United States within 72 hours before arrival at the Canadian border.
