Manitoulin OPP seize big cache of weapons

Manitoulin OPP has taken out a large cache of weapons from the North Shore corridor area.

OPP Constable Bev Gauthier says back in December their office received information that a package containing prohibited devices was being delivered to an address in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

After a lengthy investigation, on January 20th local officers, the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and the OPP’s North East Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Lee Valley Road in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

The police seized several rifles, magazines and ammunition including prohibited weapons.

41-year-old Joshua Westwell of Sables-Spanish Rivers Township is charged with: unauthorized importation of weapons, unauthorized possession, unauthorized possession of prohibited weapons and breach.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on March 1, 2021.
