Algoma Public Health’s Board of Health has appointed Dr. John Tuinema as Associate Medical Officer of Health for Algoma Public Health.
Board chair, Sally Hagman says starting July 2021, Dr. Tuinema will work under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jennifer Loo as a public health physician to achieve the public health mandate for the Algoma region.

She says his career began as a paramedic in the Algoma district with Algoma Emergency Medical Services and later with Greater Sudbury Emergency Medical Services before pursuing further education at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
Hagman adds further to his training at the school, he chose to complete his Master of Public Health at Queen’s University, while concurrently completing a Post-Graduate specialization in Public Health & Preventive Medicine from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
